Fully Equipped Hatchery

There are many benefits of owning your own hatchery and raising your own poultry. The foremost being the harvesting of the eggs for your family's consumption. Not only are these eggs a renewable and sustainable resource, but they are also a noted source of high quality protein in the human diet. The U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has found that locally raised eggs are in many ways far superior in nutritional value than commercial raised eggs, having on average 4 to 6 times more vitamin D, 1/3 less cholesterol and 2 times more omega-3 fatty acids.

In the spirit of staying in tune with nature, a hatchery offers the ability to give back to the earth. Used eggshells and chicken manure, offer an excellent soil amendment for the home garden. Chickens also allow for an effective and natural form of pest control, bugs and worms being an integral part of their diet.

Any excess of eggs can be sold commercially for a profit. In fact, a large amount of money can be made by selling the chickens hatched from the eggs to local farms, markets and butchers. Bedford and the surrounding areas boast several farmer's markets where fresh eggs may be sold.

Our hatchery is fully equipped and contains:

  • Integrated Refrigeration System - providing an ideal setting for all of your commercial or personal poultry raising needs.
  • Solar Water - for use in growing your own food.

Livestock and Cattle

Along with the ability to raise your own poultry, this property is an excellent setting to raise cattle and other types of livestock. The large pasture area provides a valuable source of hay for consumption and there is a double benefit in that the livestock can help with maintaining the landscape.

As one might expect, meat from home raised cattle is superior to store bought meat in several ways. The meat is processed with quality in mind as opposed to quantity. Beef is absent of steroids, additives and other chemicals often found in commercial grade products. When raising cattle for your own family to consume, you will make sure that it is of the highest quality. This quality is a valuable commodity sought after by local restaurants and business owners. The selling of organically raised calves, young steer or beef for butchering to local farms and markets can also be quite a profitable venture.

Raising livestock can also be a rewarding endeavor in a completely different way. The value and importance of having livestock to care for on your homestead cannot be underestimated when it comes to teaching a family the value of responsibility, cooperation and productivity.

From large animal veterinary hospitals, to nearby butchering facilities, Bedford is teeming with available resources to help you succeed.

Equipment Barn

Conveniently located to the side of the main house, is an open-front metal storage building with a surrounding fence. The building is approximately 40X40 feet and has a wooden A-Frame with a durable metal exterior. This building can easily be used to store hay, automobiles, farm equipment or any other estate necessities. It is designed with open rafters, which can provide an additional area for out-of-the-way storage. The flooring of the building is both gravel and cement, perfect for use as a mechanic's workshop.

There is a workstation located at the back of the building as well as two 1,000 gallon diesel / gasoline storage tanks on the outer wall. If kept full, the fuel tanks would make constant returns to town for fuel to power cars or equipment unnecessary.
